Your adventure begins with an ascent to the imposing heights of Abra Málaga Pass (4,267 meters), where an exciting 4-hour bike descent through Andean landscapes awaits. Upon reaching Santa María, a delicious local lunch will replenish your energy before your first white-water rafting experience on the swift waters of the Urubamba River.
The next day, you’ll hike authentic Inca trails, discovering tropical landscapes and culminating in the rejuvenating Cocalmayo Hot Springs in Santa Teresa. The following day, adventure continues as you fly over the jungle on exciting zip-lines before trekking to the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes. The highlight of your journey comes at dawn on the sixth day, when you’ll explore the majestic Machu Picchu citadel. Itinerary for Inca Jungle Trail
Day 1 – Welcome to Cusco – walking guided tour in the city
After your arrival to Lima, you need to take your connecting flight from Lima to Cusco and once you land into Cusco a Kaypi Peru tours representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. In the afternoon you will have a walking tour around the city for around 3 hours exploring some interesting areas like: » Qoricancha » Main Square » Main cathedral » San Pedro market. You will spend the night in Cusco
Day 2 – Free day in Cusco city – tours available – hotel night
The day is yours to spend at your leisure. Kaypi Peru Tours does offer extra day tours and excursions in Cusco for an additional cost. The highlight in Cusco is the SACRED VALLEY TOUR, but we have more options for you such as: » Archaeological tour. » Sacred Valley tour (Maras, Moray and Ollantaytambo) » Rainbow mountain hike. We organize all these tours in private small groups; just ask about them. You will spend the night in Cusco city.
Day 3 – Cusco to Santa Maria town, biking, and rafting
Our transportation will pick you up at approximately 8:00 a.m. After a journey of about two hours, we will arrive at Abra Málaga (4,350 meters / 14,270 feet). From this starting point, we will begin the Inca Jungle tour by bike. We will descend for approximately three hours, passing through small villages, orchards, rivers, and streams, until we reach the town of Huamanmarca around 1:30 p.m. Afterwards, our private bus will take the group on a 30-minute ride to the town of Santa María, where we will have lunch. Following a short break, we will begin a new adventure: a rafting trip lasting about two hours. We will encounter Class III and IV rapids, always accompanied by a professional safety kayak to ensure the group’s well-being throughout the activity. We will spend the night in a local lodge.
Day 4 – Santa Maria town to Santa Teresa town, hiking, and thermal baths
We woke up around 7:00 a.m. to enjoy a typical breakfast surrounded by nature. Afterwards, we began walking along the riverbank and started a climb of approximately 30 minutes. Part of this trek follows the original Inca Trail. Along the way, we saw small coffee plantations, fruit trees, and more. The area is rich with diverse bird species and orchids; this ecosystem is part of the high forest and is one of the most biodiverse areas of the Inca Jungle. Once at the top, we will see the entire Lower Urubamba Valley. The group will then descend the mountain for about 2.5 hours until arriving at the village of Qellomayo for a meal. After a break, we will continue walking for 3 hours, crossing farms, waterfalls, and rivers until we reach the hot springs of Santa Teresa. Following a relaxing bath, the group will walk for another 40 minutes to the town of Santa Teresa, where we will spend the night in a local lodge.
Day 5 – Santa Teresa town to Machu Picchu, hiking, zip-lining
At around 7:00 a.m., after a typical breakfast, we will prepare to trace the legendary paths of the first explorers who discovered Machu Picchu. The adventure begins in Santa Teresa with an exhilarating zipline experience, soaring high above the forest canopy. Afterwards, a bus will take us to the Hidroeléctrica station. Following a delicious lunch, we will embark on an unforgettable 3-hour hike to Aguas Calientes. This scenic trail is a highlight of the journey, winding along the active railway tracks through the lush, vibrant heart of the cloud forest. Keep your eyes open for a stunning diversity of flora and fauna from exotic orchids and towering ferns to colorful toucans, and perhaps even the majestic spectacled bear. The air is filled with the symphony of the jungle, making every step a discovery. We will arrive in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town) in the afternoon, where you will check into our comfortable 3-star hotel, your perfect retreat to rest and recharge for the pinnacle of your adventure tomorrow.
Day 6 – Machu Picchu tour and train back to Cusco
You will have breakfast at your hotel, and then your tour guide will pick you up and take you to the bus station, where you’ll board the bus that will take you up to the majesticMachu Picchu. The visit will begin early, filled with the excitement of exploring one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Once there, you’ll enjoy a guided walking tour of approximately 2.5 hours, discovering the fascinating history, temples, terraces, and breathtaking views of this sacred site. Please remember to bring your valid passport for entry into Machu Picchu. After this unforgettable experience, you’ll take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch, collect your bags from the hotel, and then board the train back to Cusco or Ollantaytambo. The train journey takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the train service and your destination station. Upon arrival, a Kaypi Peru Tours representative will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel in Cusco. You will spend the night in Cusco City, surrounded by the charm and magic of the Andes.
Day 7 – Departure from Cusco
Finally, our Inca JungleTrek ends, when our representative will picking you up from your hotel to take you to the airport where you will catch the flight to Lima and the connection flight to your country.
